John Adkins

John Adkins, who holds degrees in both law and library administration, has nearly thirty years of senior level management experience in legal/library settings. For ten years he has managed a large, multi-branch public law library serving a highly diverse patron base. He has worked to redefine the library as a progressive, useful, and innovative county-wide agency that allows all users to find the law, a public imperative. As part of his duties as Director of Libraries, Mr. Adkins serves as Secretary to the San Diego Law Library Foundation Board of Trustees, a charitable nonprofit fundraising organization that advocates for grants, sponsorships, endowments, and donations to the San Diego Law Library.
From 2014 through 2018, he was President of the Council of California County Law Librarians, where he championed the cause of public law libraries and provided leadership for law libraries throughout the state. In that role, he represented the CCCLL to state and local legislatures, court administrations, governmental bodies, and community organizations and provided leadership to the law library community on many organizational issues, including policies and procedures, administration, advocacy and budgeting, writing or supervising the writing of position papers on such topics and more.
Mr. Adkins graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. He received a degree in Librarianship from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Library & Info Studies and an A.B. Degree in Humanities and Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley.
